What fishing gear do i need?

I love fishing if I could I would do that rather than my job... but first I need a boat and the right gear....I live in Texas and the closes lake is ray burn...but what would be some must have lures and stuff like that for being succesful...cuz I know banjo minnows are illegal in fishing competitions... but I really don't know what soft plastic baits, what size hooks, what size weights, what hard baits I need like crankbaits and rattle traps I would need? Please help if you can!
