Is this an okay rig for drift fishing for catfish.?

Okay so Im a poor man. Im looking into buying a cheap flatbottom aluminum plain jane used john boat. Im going to be using it for drift fishing for catfish. I have been watching drift fishing videos on youtube and i was wondering if i could do i without a trolling motor. (Just paddle slowely around in some coves) I noticed that you have to have rod holders. For rod holders do you think it would be okay to weld some cheap ones on there from walmart? Then if i ever wanted to take them off i would just grind them off. Finally I surely aint got the money to buy no fishfinder so would i be alright without one. This is only a tempory rig because i plan on getting some kind of small bass boat once i get me a nice job. Thanks.
